PNR::Passenger Name Record:
PNR is the unique code that consists of ten digits which is given for a passenger or a group of them travelling together. Passengers can find the pnr number on the top left corner which is printed and can get to know about the current status of their reserved ticket by simply with the help of the PNR number . This unique number is quite useful even if you have lost the ticket.
Pnr and its features:
1.CNF(Confirmed): In the PNR Status result you will get CNF, Which means the booked train ticket is confirmed and the details of coach number and the seat number are shown in resultant pnr status page.
2.RAC(reservation against cancellation): When the PNR status of the result page shows RAC it means the passenger has no confirmed berth but can board the train by sharing the berth with another passenger. The passenger can get the berth because of the cancellations done in the last minute which are nearer to the date of travel.
3.WL(Waiting list): This means the train ticket is not confirmed and berth for the passenger is not alloted and is under the list of passengers in wait list and one cannot board the train if the status is in WL position. If any CNF person cancels the ticket then the passengers in waitlist gets reduced and the berth will get confirmed . The number of wait listed tickets are decided by authorities of railways and after a certain requests, their will be no further acceptance of the requests and the system shows as Regret where the tickets cannot be purchased. If you book your ticket online under WL position then your ticket will be automatically cancelled after the preparation of the chart.
4.RAC/WL: The pnr status of the tickets will have the two numbers like - WL100/WL55, WL50 /RAC20. Then the first number on the ticket shows the ticket current status and second number shows the current position of list of the passengers . Thus, WL100/W55 means that the ticket when you were booking is the 100 wait list and because of the 45 passengers who have cancelled their tickets so the position decreased to 55.
5.CK: If the ticket is booked under the tatkal scheme it shows CK. As per the railway rule a person can book a ticket in tatkal scheme before twenty four(24) hours prior to starting of the train. If in case, the tatkal ticket is confirmed then you will get a seat and coach number with CK as a code for tatkal booking.
6.CKWL: It means the train ticket is in wait list position under the tatkal scheme. The difference between general waiting and the tatkal waiting is when a ticket of tatkal waiting list is zero then a person can get a seat which is confirmed but for the general waiting it moves from wl 0(zero) to the RAC ticket category.
7.PQWL (Pooled Quota Waiting List): This PQWL is also one of the types of many Waiting Lists which appear on pnr status of anyone's ticket. This symbol is shown when a person has booked the ticket under the railway quota.
8.GNWL (General Waiting List): If the pnr status of the ticket is in CNF status anybody can travel. But if it shows GNWL status you can't travel in train. If anyone have booked the ticket from the station then under some circumstances they have to travel even in the general compartments.
9.REGRET/WL: If this message is shown when booking the ticket which means that no more of the bookings are allowed after this message.
